Championship ace with £18m price tag set for West Ham talks but spectre of Tottenham looms large

West Ham are reportedly set to open talks with Hull City over the summer signing of Keane Lewis-Potter but Tottenham still hold an interest in the forward.

The 21-year-old has been turning heads with his displays for the Tigers over the past couple of seasons. Having made 21 Championship appearances in the 2019-2020 campaign, the winger enjoyed 33 League One starts from 43 outings the following season. And, with Hull back in the second tier, the England Under-21 star has played every minute of his side’s 44 league games this term.

He has notched 11 goals to add to the 13 he bagged in 2020-2021, and scored twice as the Yorkshire side beat Reading 3-0 on Saturday. It has been a tough campaign for the MKM Stadium outfit.

They changed manager in January as Shota Arveladze replaced Grant McCann at the helm. Results have improved but they sit 18th in the table with 50 points to their name.

They have flirted with the relegation zone but are now 16 points clear of the bottom three and safe from the drop. Lewis-Potter has been a shining light for the team and other clubs have watched his development.

Back in October it emerged that the Hammers were keen, while Brentford were also mentioned as possible suitors. And Spurs then entered the picture, with reports in January that they were hoping for a winter deal.

That failed to materialise, with a price tag of £12m hung around the youngster’s neck. The Athletic are now suggesting that David Moyes is a big fan and eager to push through a deal as soon as possible.

And it is claimed that the East End outfit would need to fork out £18m if they want to get a deal over the line.

Lewis-Potter with options to ponder

Lewis-Potter has contributed four assists this season in addition to his 11 league goals. And England came calling last month.

He made his debut for the Three Lions Under-21s as an 82nd-minute substitute in a 3-0 triumph over Albania.

It seems as though the former Bradford Park Avenue loan man has the footballing world at his feet. And it may well be that he follows the same path as Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham boss David Moyes

West Ham paid Hull £18m for the forward in January 2020 and have already got their money’s worth. They may have to find a similar amount for Lewis-Potter and will hope for the same return.
