Maddison blasts Manchester United star following ‘dominant’ Leicester City performance

James Maddison blasted Manchester United star Raphael Varane for his reaction to a foul that chalked off a Leicester City goal on Saturday.

Leicester’s form has not been up to the expected standard this season. Indeed, the Foxes are currently ninth in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers’ side would have expected more this term, given they finished fifth the last two years.

Leicester have had an upturn in form of late, though. They made it through to the next round of the Europa Conference League with a 3-2 victory on aggregate over Rennes.

They followed that up with a 2-1 league win against Brentford. Then, their latest fixture against Manchester United represented a big challenge.

The Foxes could have come away with all three points, after a good performance. They had what would have been a winning goal chalked off thanks to a foul in the build up, though, meaning it ended 1-1.

It was Maddison whose goal was disallowed, as Varane was judged to have been fouled in the build up. The Leicester star has blasted his opponent for his reaction to the foul.

“The disallowed goal is one of them – you see them given and you see them not given. I’m obviously going to be biased and say it’s not a foul. As soon as he goes over to the monitor you know,” he said via Metro.

“I saw Varane go down. I’m not sure how he went down like that from the actual foul that was given.

“The way he went down I thought it was some sort of twist injury without a foul taking place. As soon as the referee went to the monitor I knew something was going to happen that was going to spoil my party,” he added.

Despite only gaining a point from the game, Maddison felt Leicester put in a great performance.

“I thought we were dominant in the first half. Sometimes you can almost feel in control even without the ball,” he said.

“They obviously played with Bruno [Fernandes] and [Paul] Pogba without a recognised striker. They’ve got tricky players in wide areas, but I felt we were in control. We were actually the better team.”

Indeed, the Foxes will hope for more of the same for the rest of the season. Of course, they will want to finish as high as they can in the league.
