‘Only two Man Utd stars safe’, as ex-Old Trafford goalkeeper details plan for major Ten Hag upheaval

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has claimed that only David de Gea and Dean Henderson are safe from the axe this summer.

The pressure has mounted at Old Trafford for a number of seasons now and this summer looks like a major crossroads. Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes failed to truly return the club to previous heights.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has also been unable to perform a major turnaround in his time in charge.

However, there is hope that incoming new manager Erik ten Hag can properly revive the Old Trafford club. The Dutchman has impressed at Ajax and has a big job on his hands at Man Utd.

Indeed, several players including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are leaving this summer when their contracts expire. Reports have in fact claimed that up to 12 players could depart Old Trafford in the coming months.

And former United stopper Kuszczak has said that he is all for such a cull from Ten Hag. The 40-year-old claimed that only fellow goalkeepers De Gea and Henderson deserve to stay.

“Obviously, I expect a lot of changes,” Kuszczak told the Daily Mail. “I want to see my beloved team playing at the right level and not conceding nine goals against Liverpool in one season and two games.

“It’s shocking and every position is under question, apart from the goalkeeper. David and Dean are very strong. Those are the only two who are safe.

“The rest, each position you look at there’s always questions. [Cristiano] Ronaldo is doing very well but he’s getting on now and can’t be given so much responsibility at the age of 37.

“But in summary every part of the team needs to be changed!”

Man Utd need to get rid

Ten Hag is reportedly after a new centre-back, midfielder and a more long-term option than Ronaldo up front.

However, Kuszczak added that the signings cannot happen without prior departures and proper recruitment research.

“It all depends though on how the new manager wants to play,” the ex-goalkeeper said.

“The philosophy of Manchester United has always been attacking football and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried that, Rangnick tried that and it doesn’t work.

“Two different managers in the past 12 months with the same core squad and nothing works.”

Ten Hag has big job on his hands

Man Utd are at another crossroads in their recent history since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

The five managers in that time have failed to get the club back on track.

United hope that their new coach can do better and there could well be a change of approach.

Ten Hag has no experience of the Premier League, but his aura and CV in interviews impressed United chiefs.
