Tottenham v Arsenal crunch north London derby clash finally given rescheduled date

Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Arsenal, which was controversially postponed in January, has been rescheduled for the evening of Thursday, May 12.

The new date slots in just 10 days before the end of the season and raises the prospect of a head-to-head battle for the last remaining Champions League qualification slot.

The match was originally postponed on January 16 following a late request from Arsenal that left their north London rivals “extremely surprised” by the decision.

The Gunners cited a combination of Covid-19, injuries and absences due to the African Nations Cup for their request. That prompted Tottenham to demand more “clarity and consistency” in the decision-making process.

Four more games have been rescheduled for the penultimate midweek of the season, with Aston Villa’s clash with Liverpool, delayed last month due to the Reds’ FA Cup commitments, now slated for Tuesday, May 10.

Leeds’ meeting with Chelsea, Leicester’s clash with Norwich and a potentially-pivotal relegation clash between Watford and Everton have all been rearranged for Wednesday, May 11.

Tottenham, Arsenal in striker hunt

Meanwhile, Tottenham and Arsenal are very much in the race to sign Juventus striker Paulo Dybala but only if the Argentina star drops his unrealistic wage demands.

The 28-year-old, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, will be out of contract this summer and as such is looking for a big signing-on fee and salary to go with it.

Dybala has been at Juve since 2015, winning five Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia’s during that time.

He has also scored 113 goals in 283 games for the Old Lady, who are already committed to the player’s exit.

Chelsea, along with the named Premier League quartet, have also been tipped to swoop for the classy attacker.

However, it now appears that the north London duo lead the race to get a deal over the line.

But Italian journalist and former coach, Giancarlo Padovan, claims that Dybala’s €10million (£8.4m) wage demands are excessive. That is despite the fact that will not cost a penny in transfer fees.

“He is a proud player, not depressed,” Padovan told Sky (via Sport Witness).

“He knows that besides Juventus there are many important teams, he knows that he can go to Atletico or stay in Italy, at Inter.

“In England, there are Arsenal or Tottenham: in short, he will not remain unemployed.

“I don’t think he will earn the €10m (£8.4m) euros a year he is asking for. But he wants to prove that Juve was wrong not to confirm him.”
