Newcastle still in the hunt for Bundesliga speedster but Leicester and West Ham also keen

Newcastle remain in the hunt to sign Jeremiah St Juste and are expected to make a fresh move for the Mainz defender in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies were first linked with a move for St Juste in January. A move failed to happen but reports have claimed Newcastle have maintained an interest. With Eddie Howe looking to sign a host of players St Juste is still on the radar.

Newcastle opted to sign Dan Burn from Brighton for £13m in January. He has gone on to impress in his eight performances so far but Howe still wants reinforcements.

St Juste in demand

St Juste appears to be an option. Fussball Transfers say that Newcastle will resurrect their interest after failing in January. But they also report that the competition is hot.

Leicester City and West Ham have also been mentioned. All three Premier League clubs sense a bargain as the Dutchman will be out of contract in 2023.

There is no sign of him signing a new deal with Mainz and the German side will be keen to cash in. The summer represents one of the last opportunities to do so.

The 25-year-old could be picked up for £10m which is a drop in the ocean for Newcastle these days. Leicester and West Ham would have no issue either so the battle for his services could be on.

St Juste is known to be the quickest player in the Bundesliga. He has clocked speeds of over 36km/h and that kind of pace is a huge asset to any side. That is also some going for a central defender.

There is one area of concern though. The former Feyenoord star has been struggling with shoulder problems this season. He has managed just eight appearances.

The Magpies will want reassurances that it will not be an issue before concluding a deal. Newcastle will be aware of the situation and it has not deterred them so far. A thorough medical should do the trick.

Newcastle linked with teammate

Meanwhile Newcastle also continue to be linked with St Juste’s Mainz teammate. Moussa Niakhate is also a central defender. It is highly unlikely Howe will move for both so could have a decision to make.

The 26-year-old is valued at £8m and unlike St Juste has had no injury issues this season. Indeed he has played in 22 games for Mainz who sit midtable in the Bundesliga.

Newcastle were busy in the January transfer window and could be even busier in the summer.
