Man Utd further map out first Ten Hag transfer window with major divide in player exit policy

Manchester United have reportedly told six disgruntled players that they will have to stay as Erik ten Hag takes charge – because six others are definitely leaving.

The Red Devils’ plan for their new chapter is beginning to come together. While their Champions League status for next season remains unclear amid the fight for a top-four Premier League finish, they are closing in on a new manager.

United are moving towards appointing Ajax’s Erik ten Hag as the replacement for interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

And reports have claimed to reveal how Man Utd‘s first transfer window under the Dutchman could look. The Old Trafford club are supposedly eyeing a club-record move for Declan Rice.

Ten Hag has also been tipped to bring Ajax stars Antony and Jurrien Timber to his new club. However, United have done the background work on their targets and are ready to explain their reasoning to Ten Hag.

The Daily Mirror now reports that United are being similarly forthright with their player exit policy.

Six players have made it clear that they want out this summer. That list includes goalkeeper Dean Henderson and defender Eric Bailly, along with Anthony Martial.

But, Man Utd have informed that their plan is to keep those players at Old Trafford.

That is because six more are definitely leaving as their contracts expire at the end of this season. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Lee Grant are in that cohort.

The Red Devils may eventually soften their stance, the Daily Mirror adds. But that will only become a possibility late on in the transfer window if and when new signings arrive.

Pogba’s situation has perhaps attracted the most attention. He remains United’s club-record, £89million signing from Juventus in 2016 and he recently labelled this season “dead” for United.

Martial, meanwhile, will return from a loan spell at Sevilla after sealing a move in January.

Ten Hag built a reputation at Ajax of having a close relationship with club chiefs over transfers.

United have firmly set their stall out, but he will nevertheless want to stamp his own mark on the team.

He rebuilt Ajax twice, either side of major sales for the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.

And Ten Hag has remained competitive throughout his time at Ajax, taking the club to the last 16 of the Champions League this season.
